Faculty of Education Access Initiative - Valuing your Experience
The Access initiative to Pre-service Education is designed to support under-represented and historically marginalized groups into the teaching profession. This initiative supports prospective and future students with all aspects of the application process. The initiative also actively recruits students who might not otherwise consider teaching so that they might learn more about the opportunities available for all considering and entering into pre-service teacher education. For more information, contact the Access coordinator at: email@example.com
Faculty of Education Westview Partnership
The Westview Partnership focuses on students from Junior Kindergarten to beyond grade 12, encouraging and supporting them to pursue post secondary education or training. For example, the Advanced Credit Experience Program (ACE) provides a post-secondary education experience to high school students from a diversity of ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds in a supportive environment.

York's Admission Credential Courses are designed for mature students to enable them to acquire the background they need for admission to York University or to meet the prerequisites for a specific course or program. Courses consist of smaller classes to maximize teacher-student interaction; dedicated instructors; exposure to university campus life; experience in university study; and opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, supportive environment.
Steps to Liberal Arts
The Steps to Liberal Arts program reaches out to high school students who show the potential to succeed in university study, but who have faced long-term obstacles that prevented them from meeting admission requirements for a liberal arts program. Students must be nominated by a high school guidance counselor and apply to one of the liberal arts programs offered by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. Steps to Liberal Arts bridges the learning experience between high school and university through providing students with a specialized orientation, a first-year course on academic and coping skills, and one-on-one advising sessions throughout their university career.
Transition Year Program
The Transition-Year Program (TYP) at York is a special access program for youth (19+) and adults who, due to various barriers, have not had an opportunity to finish high school and who do not have the formal educational credentials to qualify for university admission (have not attempted postsecondary studies). The Program offers an intensive, two-term full-time course of study leading to entrance to a selected York University degree program.
Women's Bridging Program
The School of Women's Studies at York University offers academic Bridging Courses for women who want to upgrade their writing and speaking skills and explore the possibility of university study. Course participants must be 21 years of age or over, permanent residents of Ontario, and comfortable in both spoken and written English. A grade of 'B' or better offers admission to mature students to the Faculties of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and Glendon in addition to some programs in other Faculties. The Bridging course is not appropriate if you require ESL instruction. If you have completed one full year or more of university or academic college studies, you may not need a bridging course as an admissions credential.
