York celebrates your choice

  • Apply to York and, if admitted and you accept, download a Bridging the Gap deferral of admission form.
  • If approved, York reserves your admission spot for up to a year.
  • Your entrance scholarship is held for one year.
  • Guaranteed residence is reserved for you including preferred application to international Global House.

Successful transition to York University

  • Preferred early enrolment for your advising session and class selection – in person or distance!
  • A unique scholarship contest for GAP-year students.
  • Attend a special “welcome home” reception at the start of classes to swap stories, share experiences, meet new friends or start a club.
  • Meet fellow GAP year students during York e-chats.
  • Attend a pre-GAP summer session with York International and current students who have “gapped.”

Did you know?

A 2008 Statistics Canada report, published jointly with Canadian Policy Research Networks, suggests that students who delay post-secondary education don’t face a disadvantage in the labour market, as long as they complete university once started. The report studied the differences between non-gappers and gappers - students who went straight to university within four months of graduating from high school and those who delayed their post-secondary education.
