To apply for the merit- and need-based awards listed below, submit the Student Financial Profile (SFP). Where applicable, supporting documents must be mailed and received at the University by the specified deadline. Student Financial Profile.

Governors' Awards of Distinction:
  • John S. Proctor Entrance Scholarship
  • Alumni Entrance Scholarship
  • Bruce Bryden Scholarship
$32,000 ($8,000 x 4 years)
plus cost of residence accommodation for first year (approximately $4,000)
  • Minimum average 90%
  • Accomplishments in community service, leadership, the arts or sports
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person

Awards of Distinction: Merit Scholarships $2,000
  • Awarded to applicants short-listed for the Awards of Distinction as noted above


How to Apply: No separate application is required

Avie Bennett Award $30,000 ($7,500 x 4 years)
  • Entering first year of full-time studies
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
  • Minimum admission average of 75%
  • Resident of Brampton (Ontario)
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Proven commitment to service and society

Award of Achievement - York University $24,000 ($6,000 x 4 year)
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; Ontario resident
  • Minimum admission average of 85%
  • Contributions to school or community
  • Achievement and financial need
  • Recipients are not eligible for the renewable entrance scholarship

Harry Arthurs Alumni Families Entrance Scholarship $24,000 ($6,000 x 4 years)
  • Child, grandchild or sibling of a York alumnus/alumna
  • Minimum average 90%
  • Demonstrated record of participation, leadership or volunteerism
  • Recipients are not eligible for the renewable entrance scholarship

The Honderich Bursary $24,000 ($6,000 x 4 years)
  • Incoming high school students from James Cardinal McGuigan Secondary School, Emery Collegiate Institute, CW Jeffrey's Secondary School and Westview Centennial Secondary School
  • Includes a summer job at the Toronto Star at the end of the first year

Award for Aboriginal Students $20,000 ($5,000 x 4 years)
  • Students of Aboriginal ancestry selected from each of the Provincial Territorial Organizations in Ontario
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; Ontario resident
  • Minimum admission average of 70%
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Recipient required to participate in a mentorship program

The Chancellor Bennett Entrance Awards for the Westview Partnership $20,000 ($5,000 x 4 year)
  • For students from Westview Centennial Secondary School, C.W. Jeffrey's Collegiate Institute, Emery Collegiate Institute, James Cardinal McGuigan and North Albion Collegiate.
  • Applying to direct entry undergraduate program
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; Ontario resident and demonstrated financial need
  • Admission average of 75% or higher
  • Contributions to school or community

York University Renewable Entrance Athletic Scholarship*

*formerly the York University Athletic Financial Award

$20,000 ($4,000 x 5 years)

 
  • Entering first year of full-time studies
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
  • Minimum admission average of 80% (or equivalent)
  • Students must contact the head coach of the intended interuniversity team

Entrance Bursary for Aboriginal Students $8,800 ($2,200 x 4 years)
  • Status and non-status undergraduate students of Aboriginal ancestry who are Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and a Ontario resident
  • Demonstrate financial need
