Études françaises

Sidebar

Program focuses is French literatures and the evolution of ideas and literary fields as well as research training in French linguistics.

This unique interdisciplinary program features a double specialization in French Literature and French Linguistics and offers courses in French only on both campuses of York University.

You will have the opportunity to research and study French literature and the language of France, French Canada and French communities across the world (for instance Professor Szmidt’s research on North African literature and Professor R. Mougeon’s research on Canadian French and immersion French).

Students are actively involved in research: as graduate or research assistants assigned to professors; for students in Linguistics, as members of the Centre for Research on Language Contact, located at Glendon; and as organizers and participants in student colloquia showcasing their research. Entrance in the program requires high competence in French for non-native French-speaking students.
