Translation Studies

About Program Degrees Offered and Application Requirements

The MA program in translation is an opportunity for translation professionals and graduates of a translation degree or of other degree programs to investigate the growing academic field of translation studies.

This program is designed for two categories of students:

  • those with a BA (Honours) in Translation and some experience in translation who wish to expand their knowledge and deepen their reflection on the practice
  • those with a BA (Honours) in another discipline who have practiced translation or who have developed a scholarly interest in translation (in this case, candidates must complete a preparatory program before applying)

The program is wide ranging, flexible and can be adapted to the particular interests of students. Courses are offered in two fields:

  • Translation and Transcultural Studies
  • Applied Translation Studies

Classes are held at Glendon, York's bilingual campus. Most courses are offered in English but we also offer some courses in French.

Classes are either on-site or online.

Thesis and research work can focus on a wide range of language combinations.

Frost Library (Glendon) offers a comprehensive collection of specialized dictionaries, journals and glossaries.

Professors in the program are prominent members of the international translation studies community.

The dynamic translation studies community at Glendon offers a variety of research-related activities throughout the year.
