Degrees/Certifications:
Cross-Disciplinary Certificate in Digital Media

Note:

Certificates are designed to allow you to complete a coherent grouping of degree-credit courses at university level as either part of or independent from a full degree program. The number of courses required for any given certificate varies upon the subject area and specialization.

Are you interested in the use of digital technologies in any of the fine, performing or new media arts? Are you interested in computer-assisted creation, performance and dissemination of art works? Then the Certificate in Digital Media is for you!

Within the fine arts, the processes and products associated with digital technologies differ from those associated with more traditional ways of creating and performing. For example, instead of a Visual Arts course where you work on a canvass or with clay, you might take a course in which you create works using various software packages in the computer lab. Or rather than perform in a dance studio, you might explore movement ideas and create dances through a 3-D animation program.

In contrast to the historical image of the lone artist working in an isolated setting, digital technologies now make it possible for artists to create group works interactively and to share art works through web broadcasting and broad band distribution.

The Certificate in Digital Media will provide you with tangible confirmation of your strengths in a range of digital arts, thus providing an "added value" component to your degree. Graduates will be positioned to apply for funding through the numerous agencies that are now awarding arts grants in the New Media area.

Who can take it?

This certificate is open to currently registered Fine Arts students. Students registered in other Faculties may also be able to complete the certificate.
