The Bachelor of Education (BEd) with a concentration in French as a Second Language (FSL) addresses a provincial need to prepare well-qualified French language teachers. The Faculty of Education delivers courses for a cohort of students each year on the Glendon campus; the language of instruction is primarily French, so students are well-prepared to teach in French Immersion classrooms. Students who are admitted to this program must also be studying at Glendon. Graduates of the BEd program will be recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) for certification.
Diversity of opportunities — We offer the most diverse undergraduate education curriculum in Ontario, with both Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Bachelor of Education in Technological Education (BEd Technological Education) degree programs. We also offer opportunities in French language, Jewish teacher education, Indigenous education and a formal Specialization in International Education. Students in the Intermediate-Senior divisions are able to complete qualifications in one of the most extensive ranges of teachable subjects in the province.
Our Concurrent BEd program, to which you can apply from high school for select Faculties or after completing three years of university study, allows you to work toward your Education degree while at the same time completing most other York undergraduate degrees. Completion of the program will also lead to a recommendation to the Ontario College of Teachers for a teaching certificate.
