Mature Students

At York, we recognize the value of mature applicants, reflected in the inclusion of professional work experience and previous studies when we assess your application of admission.

Am I a mature student?

The definition of a mature student can vary widely depending on self-identification, academic background and of course, age. At York, we consider a mature student to be someone who:
  • Is at least 20 years old by the end of the calendar year of admission to the University;
  • Has been out of full-time high school studies for at least two years or has returned to upgrade after a two-year absence;
  • Has attempted less than one full year of studies at an accredited university or college; and
  • Has demonstrated potential for success through academic, professional or volunteer activities and other accomplishments.
