YorkU School of Nursing is now offering a post-Masters diploma for the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PHCNP) program, in addition to the current MScN-PHCNP. This program is for Registered Nurses who already have a Master’s degree or PhD in a health-related field and have been practicing for at least 2 years full-time equivalent. The program is one year full-time or two years part-time and prepares students to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Ontario.
The PHCNP program requires the completion of 7 PHCNP courses, two of which are offered online synchronously, five require seminar attendance at York, and five require clinical placements, which will be held in the GTA. Attendance is mandatory for seminars and clinical placements.
Full–time students will complete the program in 3 consecutive semesters and part-time students in 6 consecutive semesters. Graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Exam and are trained to practice in Ontario. Advance standing credits cannot be given for nurse practitioner courses previously completed, and we do not accept transfer students.
