Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

Certificates allow you to complete a specific group of university courses (for credit) as either part of your degree studies or separately. Additional details on certificates are available here.

As the world becomes increasingly "internationalized," the demand for facility in English is increasing at an extraordinary pace. This in turn has significantly increased the need for qualified Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) instructors.

While much of this demand is overseas, there is a parallel hunger for English language skills closer to home. Job postings now frequently specify that applicants must have a TESOL Certificate from an accredited institution.

Who can take it?

This certificate is open to the following applicants:
  1. current York students, or
  2. new applicants to York who already hold a university degree.
