Transfer students have a number of pathways that enable a smooth transition to York University. Whether you transfer as a mature student, directly from another postsecondary institution, on articulation, for financial, academic, personal or professional reasons, or come back to school after a period away, you'll find your fit at York.

Most common pathway programs offered are for Canadian college transfer students who are looking to continue their studies at York University. Articulation programs are offered to students who have previous studies from Canadian and international universities in an agreement with York University.

Students admitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies who have not fulfilled condition requirements, as stated in their offer letter on MyFile, will receive a reminder from the Office of Admissions after the first day of classes. If the condition is not met by the date specified, students may not be permitted to register for future sessions until their conditions are met.

My high school/college/university does not send documents by mail. What are my options?
Electronic transcripts are currently only accepted from Ontario high school/college and university applicants. You can have your marks sent electronically via the Ontario Universities Applications Centre (OUAC). International applicants must contact the Office of Admissions to verify whether York University will accept electronic transcripts from your home institution.
My documents are not in English. Where can I find translation services?
If your documents are not in English or French, they must be translated by a certified translator and included with the original document. We accept translations from a translator who has received accreditation through a federal, provincial or municipal government in Canada COSTI translation services, if no other certified translator is available at www.costi.org a translator certified by a professional association of translators in Canada, a list of which is available on the website of the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council at www.cttic.org.

Your complete package must include-

a copy of the foreign language document the translated document an original statement by the translator stating their organization, indentification number and/or seal, name, address, telephone number and original signature.
I have only one copy of my transcripts and/or degree certificate. What can I do to clear the condition on my file?
If the original document cannot be submitted, we may accept a true copy of the original documents if they have been certified or attested by your home institution. The true copy of your original document must be sent directly from your school and should be signed and enclosed in an official envelope by an administrator at your post-secondary institution.

Students from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh may arrange for their institutions to send a verification letter directly to the Office of Admissions for each degree that you have studied. These letters must be signed by one of the following administrators-
  • Registrar
  • Deputy Registrar
  • Controller of Examinations
  • Assistant Controller of Examinations

Students from China may arrange for their documents to be verified and sent directly to the Office of Admissions from the Ministry of Education.

Am I required to provide an English Language Test score?
You will be required to submit English language test scores if you are applying from a country or an institution where English is not the official language or the only language of instruction. Please refer to https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/requirements/language-tests for further details.
I have been conditionally admitted with a language requirement. What does this mean?
For those required to meet language proficiency requirements, York may offer conditional admission, pending proof of language proficiency, to academically highly qualified students. Eligible candidates must present a minimum 80% average on Grade 12 U/M credits or standing equivalent to an "A" average in senior-level academic course prerequisites. Conditionally admitted students must fulfil language proficiency requirements prior to the start of classes for the session to which they've been admitted as follows:a. by presenting acceptable TOEFL, IELTS or YELT scores; ORb. successfully completing level nine at York University's English Language Institute (YUELI) will also satisfy the English language requirement.Conditionally admitted Francophone applicants may satisfy language requirements by taking the French Language Placement Test offered by Glendon. All applicants conditionally admitted will be notified by hard copy letter as well as by e-mail. Applicants may also check the status of their application via MyFile.
I'm still finishing studies elsewhere, what do I do?
If your studies are in progress, please submit your final official transcript to the Office of Admissions as soon as it becomes available. This will avoid delays with condition clearing and potential transfer credit assessment. In the meanwhile, you can submit unofficial transcripts to keep us updated with your academic progress. Please note, unofficial transcripts will not clear admission conditions.
My grades have fallen below the admission requirements. What should I do?

You are expected to maintain your final grades according to the program requirements. If your grades have fallen below the minimum requirement for admission, please contact the Office of Admission.

I am missing a required course for admissions. How does this impact my conditional acceptance?
Depending on how much time remains before the start of the semester, you may be able to take the missing prerequisite course to clear the condition on your file. You must contact the Office of Admissions at the earliest to explore your options. A delay in communicating with the office may lead to your offer being rescinded or switched to an alternate program.
My grade in a required course for admissions is too low. What should I do?
Depending on how much time remains before the start of the school year, you may be able to retake the required course to maintain your offer of admission. If you do not have much time, please contact the Office of Admissions to explore alternate options.
What are the admissions conditions on my file?
Your conditions of admission are listed on your offer of admission letter and are based on your last achieved marks. Please ensure that you are meeting requirements for admission of your chosen program and that you maintain strong grades in English and any other courses that are considered prerequisites for your program. . You can find outstanding conditions listed on your MyFile account.
What will happen if the conditions on my file are not met?
If the condition of admit on your application has not been satisfied, your application will be considered to have an outstanding condition. In this case, you may be subjected to-
  1. Follow-up in regards to the condition
  2. Enrolment block for upcoming sessions
  3. De-enrolment from your courses
  4. Delay in graduation
I have submitted the required documents for condition clearing. What happens next?
Once your document is received in our office, it will be screened and attached to your file. The document on your file will then be assessed for condition clearing. You will receive an email to indicate that the condition has been cleared. This process may take between 2 to 5 weeks, depending on the time of the year.
Can I defer my conditional offer of acceptance to a future session?
You will not be able to defer your offer of admission if all the conditions on your file have not been met. Please refer to https://secure.students.yorku.ca/deferral-of-admission-for-undergraduate-students for more information.
I have been offered a scholarship, but my marks have gone down. What happens now?
Your scholarship may not be impacted if your grades fall slightly below the marks you were admitted with. If there is a significant drop in your grades, please contact the Office of Admissions.
I have been offered transfer credits on my initial assessment, but my marks have gone down. What happens now?
Your transfer credits may not be impacted if your grades fall slightly below the marks you were admitted with, If your marks have fallen below the minimum admission requirements, your transfer credit may be impacted and will be reviewed once your condition has been cleared.
I have met the conditions on my file. When will I receive a new offer letter?
You will not receive another offer letter after you meet the conditions on your application. For visa purposes, you do not need to submit page one of your offer letter.
I have an enrolment restriction listed under the conditions on my offer letter. What does this mean?
Depending on your academic record and the program you have applied to, you may have an enrolment restriction placed on your file by the program. Please contact your program for details on the enrolment block.
What happens if I do not meet the admission condition on my file?
Admitted students who do not meet the conditions of their admission may have their offer revoked. Make sure that you meet the admission conditions (if any) outlined in your offer of admission letter. We reserve the right to withdraw your offer of admission if:
  1. you do not maintain your admission average;
  2. you do not meet the conditions mentioned in your Offer of Admission letter;
  3. you do not confirm your acceptance by the deadline stated in your Offer of Admission letter; and
  4. you do not book your enrolment appointment by the deadline stated in your Offer of Admission letter.

The Senate Policy on Academic Honesty applies to applicants to York University and any submission of documentation be found to be false or modified without authorization is a breach of the policy and will lead to charges under the policy.  Penalties can range from withdrawal of an offer of admission to expulsion to rescission of a degree.

Applicants who choose to work with an agent or immigration consultant during the process of submitting their applications and required documents to York University for admission consideration are fully responsible for the accuracy of their applications content and all related materials.
