This certificate is ideal if you're interested in sharpening your professional accounting skills or if you want to pursue a professional accounting designation. Designed specifically for those with non-accounting degrees, you can obtain all the necessary credits to meet the prerequisite education courses required by the accounting profession. This certificate enables you to fulfill the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPAO) academic prerequisites requirement. CPAO lists the courses of this certificate under the BCom as one of the few recognized Post-Secondary Institutions (PSI) offering programs in Ontario. Once completed, you can apply to enter the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) provided you satisfy the grade and currency of education requirements.

You gain specialized training in the accounting field including:

Who can take it?

Applicants must have successfully completed a 4U math (or equivalent) course within the last five years prior to starting the core certificate requirements.

This certificate is open to the following applicants:

1. current York students, or
2. new applicants to York

• If you are a current York student, contact the School of Administrative Studies to find out about admissibility requirements and the application process.
• If you are a new applicant to York, you must ensure first that you meet the minimum requirements for admission to the University by applying through the Office of Admissions. You would then also make a separate inquiry to the School of Administrative Studies.
