Cinema & Media Arts - Production

Cinema & Media Arts - Production

School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design

Create through film and moving images with mentorship from award-winning professionals in cinematography, editing, sound, directing, producing, and more. Translate stories to screen year-round in a full range of digital and film formats, utilizing industry-standard production and post-production facilities while showcasing your work at exhibition opportunities, including AMPD film competitions and showcases.

The AMPD Advantage

  • Intimate course sizes with student-to-instructor ratios averaging 25:1 in first year and 10:1 in upper years.
  • Exclusive student access to Cinespace Film Studios – a well-known series of film production studios where productions like The Shape of Water, Black Mirror and The Handmaid’s Tale are films.
  • Opportunities to co-create with students in other AMPD departments, such as Theatre, Design and Music.

Program Overview

Students in the Cinema & Media Arts - Production (BFA) program experientially learn to understand, think and work in the language of the moving image across all media. The integrated curriculum offers exceptional training across the spectrum from idea to screenplay, camera to screen, and screen to critical inquiry.

The program combines in-depth technical instruction with a strong emphasis on the creative aspects of the film as a medium of storytelling, social engagement, and self-expression. The program gives students a competitive edge by developing their ability to understand and discuss the historical and theoretical framework in which movie media are produced.

Note: This program requires a supplementary application. Applicants must start their application through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC). A non-refundable supplementation fee of $20 CAD per application will be applied to the OUAC fee.

After completing the application through the OUAC, applicants will receive an email in two to five business days with steps on how to complete the supplementary application for the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD). Both the OUAC application and AMPD supplementary application must be completed before the application can be assessed for admission. Find out more:
